Dr. Sam Bakshian
Having started college at UCLA at the age of 15, Dr. Bakshian is one of the youngest spinal surgeons today. After graduating at age 18 and starting medical school at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, Dr Bakshian was well on his way to being a bright star in the medical community. Upon graduation Dr. Bakshian was accepted by the USC School of Medicine, Department of Orthopedics, where he completed an Orthopedic Surgery residency. In 1998, Dr. Bakshian completed a Spinal Surgery Fellowship at the Southern California Orthopedic Institute (SCOI). By the age of 29, Dr. Bakshian was a practicing physician, with a private practice at Tower Orthopedics in Cedars Sinai Medical Towers.
As a senior partner in Tower Orthopaedics in Beverly Hills, and a co-founder of Olympia Medical Center, Dr. Bakshian specializes in spinal surgeries that relieves pressure and restores stability to the spine. He treats a wide array of pathologic conditions of the spine, including spinal tumors, fractures, deformity, degenerative issues and complex revisions of the spine. Dr. Bakshian is continually pioneering and participating in clinical trials, with emphasis on surgical techniques that preserve spinal motion.
An active member in the North American Spine Society, California Orthopedic Association, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Medical Association and a diplomat of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, Dr. Bakshian speaks at academic meetings and is at the forefront of innovation in the world of orthopedics. Dr. Bakshian utilizes the latest approaches of minimally invasive spinal surgery and endoscopic techniques as well as minimally invasive spinal fusions. He specializes in the surgical treatment of disorders of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine. Dr. Bakshian performs surgeries at Olympia Medical Center and Cedars Sinai Hospital.
On the personal side, Dr. Bakshian has the unique ability to bond with his patients, and he considers himself a true patient advocate. Dr Bakshian lives with his wife and four children, and he considers himself a true “family man”. Both Dr. Bakshian and his wife’s families are academic and they continue this tradition on a long and prestigious line of doctors. His hobbies include sailing, martial arts, tennis and scuba diving. Dr. Bakshian is very passionate about his work and would want to continue to do it even if it wasn’t his profession. “If given an opportunity to do anything, I would choose to practice spine surgery as my favorite hobby”.
